Fall Trophy Bass Fishing Tips

10/10/2011 10:22

With the cool nights and warm days bass will feed mainlyduring the warmest parts of the day. This provides an opportunity to catch big trophy sized bass. Here are a few tips that will help you catch some monster fish.

One of the mosthelpful fishing tips is to know the lake where you are fishing. Purchase some fishing maps that show the best areas for bass to hang out. Bass like to ambush their prey so look for large rock formations or lots of underwater trees. Places where they can hide and hunt.

Another important piece of knowledge to have is what types of small feeder fish live in the lake. What species of shad and shiners are found in your lake? What specific color patterns of blue gill or sun fish live there? Byobserving the exact color patterns of the bait fish you will be able to choose the best fishing lures.

One of the best ways to learn what the bass have been eating is to pump their stomach. When you catch a bass use a small stomach pump to remove the contents and examine them. This is simple to do and can be done without hurting the fish.

Lookingthrough the stomach contents tells you what sizes and color of lures you should be using. If you do this every time you catch a fish you will develop a log book of very useful information. After looking at the content of many fish over the course of a year or two you will be an expert on what type and colors of lures to use in every season of the year.

These are a few of the things you can do to catch trophy sized bass. These same techniques will also improve your performance playing online fishing games.

International Fishing Spots-Amazon

05/10/2011 09:25

The world is huge and water covers almost 3/4 of it. One of the largest fresh water fishing rivers is the Amazon River. The amazon is the second largest river in the world with only the Nile being longer. But, unlike the Nile, the Amazon is navigable with ocean going vessels for 3000 miles. This makes it possible to have an amazing fishing adventure.

The mouth of the amazon is huge. It forms an estuary that is 150 miles wide. This estuary dumps between 9 million and 32 million gallons of water per second until the Atlantic. It also dumps tons of silt which forms islands. One island, Marajo Island, has an area of 14000 square miles.

The fishing is excellent all up and down the amazon. There are well over a 1000 different species found in the river. Some of the fish are crazy man eaters like the red bellied piranha.

Some of the fish are huge. The largest known fresh water fish is the Pirarucu. It can grow to 15 feet and weight over 400 pounds. The Pirarucu is a type of boney tongue fish. It is huge, long, heavily bodied with giant scales. It has long dorsal fin and anal fins on the back half of its body. This makes it a powerful swimmer that can chase and eat other fish. It also makes a spectacular fish to catch. On top of that, it tastes wonderful.

A unique type of piranha is the Tambaqui. The Tambaqui only eat plants, leaves, fruits and seeds. It is a good fighting fish that is about three feet long and weighs 60 pounds.

To get a good idea of the amazing Amazon fishing, watch a fishing video. A video will show you the various fish and fishing styles.  If you enjoy fly fishing and fly tying, fishing for the peacock bass is incredible.

There are also several online fishing games that highlight fishing on the amazon.

Ledgering

29/09/2011 09:09

Ledgering is a straightforward style of bottom fishing. It requires a sensitive 12-foot(minimum) rod and a small to medium sized reel, a weight, swivel and various hook sizes.Bait feeders can also be used as the weight and many competitive anglers use this method in fishing contests around the world.

The idea of the ledger rig is to allow for sensitivity, in that as soon as the fish lifts the bait the line passes thru the weight and the bite can be felt, seen, or heard. The latter if you use electronic bite indicators.

The rod has to be long, sensitive and flexible enough to cast accurately as well as play the fish. Swing tip rods and feeder rods are dedicated ledger rods. Unless you are going after easily available species with the kids, then avoid using a normal spinning rod.

Light line is paramount when ledgering and the line between the swivel and your main line is much the same as a tippet on a fly line. Keep it as light as you can, even as low as one pound. Obviously, if you plan on ledgering for pike or muskie, then trace wire will be needed at a good length from the weight; at least half a meter. Ledgering for pike will also require a larger more powerful rod for heavy fish and arduous battles.

Rod stands are essential for ledgering. A couple of branches with a Y cut may serve you well when you are ten years old, but the proper stands allow the line to run thru and hold the rod steady.

Most ledgering only requires small fishing hooks around sizes16 to 22.

Baits range from small worms to colored maggots, single pieces of sweetcorn.

A long handled landing net is always useful when ledgering.

Fall Trout Fishing Tips

26/09/2011 14:36

Trout feed voraciously on almost everything they can and the approach of winter makes them all the more likely to snap down on lures; the bigger the better.

The best fishing lures for most fly fishersin the fall will be medium sized to large flies, streamers and epoxy minnows.

Larger prey guarantees trout can fill their bellies with as little effort as possible. The later the season gets, especially to the latter end of the fall, when trout approach breeding time, they will hit anything in their territorywith venom.

Deciding on which lure to use is ultimately down to you. Weather conditions and water clarity on the dayusually triggers our common sense to use bright colors for dark murky waters, whilst dark, natural colors works for clear waters, rivers and at depths.

Most of us understand that troutare wary fish at the best of times, which is why our fishing lures have to be presented as naturallyas trout see them every day. As the fall water temperatures begin plummeting, fish don’t chase the lures as they can in summer. Slowing your retrieve or adding a slight pause to your spoons, cranks and softbaits willdefinitely improve chances of good trout sport, as well as with other species throughout the fall season.

Another extremely good method for attracting and hooking more fall trout is to tie a fly, 15 to 20 cm’s ahead of the lure. Allegedly, to fish, the larger lure looks a small fish chasing after the fly.Twitching this kind of rig can also coax even cautious fish to the take. Whilst it may sound ridiculous, ask yourself if you’ve tried it before and give it a try. You have nothing to lose and perhaps a fish to gain.

The Atlantic coast from the warm water of the south to the cool water of the north offers many different species of fish and beautiful settings. Up and down the coast, the scenery and species change but the excellent fishing remains consistent. Here are few of the best fishing spots and the species found there.

At the far south end of Florida is the little island of Key West. The harbor there has plenty of boats and guides for hire. The water in this area is as warm and beautiful and the fishing is spectacular.

There are many species in these waters including Sailfish, Tarpin, Bonefish, Red Snapper, Yellow Fin Tuna, and Wahoo. These waters also offer the opportunity for different styles of fishing and several fishing contests.

It is a short boat ride to find Tarpin and Bonefish that can be caught on a fly rod. Fishing along the beautiful sandy beaches will also produce nice fish. The deep sea fishing in this area is wonderful for Red Snapper and Wahoo.

The Wahoo is an exciting fish to catch. They are like a Sailfish only without the spike. When they are hooked they run hard and fast. They also jump high. They’ve been known to jump 10 feet out of the water and splash hard upon reentry.

Along the coast of South Carolina is Charleston which is known for many things including excellent fishing. There are plenty of boats and guides for hire. The waters are full of fish including Tarpin, Sailfish, Black Sea Bass, and common Whiting. These fish provide the perfect opportunity to try out the new equipment from this year’s Icast show.

SouthEast Asia Fishing

Bangkok is one of those cities that mesmerize outsiders with its bizarre routine of traffic chaos, sticky heat, beggars, food kitchens and air-conditioned supermalls. It also has a river that snakes its way to the Gulf of Thailand in the south. Here anglers have chances forexcellent fishing battles againstmarlin, barracuda, kingfish amongst other species.

When you’re within the city you will see many old stretches of canals from the days when Bangkok was similar to Venice.  Many of the canals were filled in to make roads and despite the disgusting color of the water there are fish living in it and locals depend on them for food. Giant freshwater stingrays are other inhabitants of the Chao Phraya River that also make good sport.

Bangkok boastsa small lake situated in the outskirts of the city called Bungsamran. It is surrounded with huts and available for anyone who wants to try some weightlifting and sport fishing against the many species of fish that bide in its muddy depths. A few of those fish are IGFA world records and the catch and release nature of the place makes sure there is always plenty of fun for everyone.

Fishing hooks and other tackle can be hired at Bungsamran and there are a number of professional fishing guides there willing to help youout. All fish have to be returned but photography and fishing videos can be taken for you.

Colorado Fly fishing Top Spots

06/09/2011 08:40

Colorado offers some absolute beautiful places to go fly fishing. While the fish are not exceptionally big, they are hard fighters. When you combine the scenery, the aquatic bugs and the fish, you have a marvelous fishing experience.

The Arkansas River between and Salida and Cotopaxi offer some extraordinary fly fishing almost year round. The river along this stretch has an abundance of aquatic life for the fish to eat. The fish seem to be wild and will fight hard. There are mainly Rainbow trout with an occasional Brown trout sprinkled in for variety. The largest fish are 18-19 inches long with the majority being in the 14-16 inch range.

Each year right around Mother’s day the Caddis fly emerges from its aquatic larval stage to its adult flying stage. This happens when the water temperature reaches a certain point. It usually occurs in late morning to early afternoon. Fishing with a Caddis emerge in the morning usually generates excellent fishing.

When the Caddis emerge from the river, switch to an elk hair dry Caddis fly to a #16 fish hook size. The fish go crazy eating the flies and they come out of the river by the millions. The air is so thick with flies that you can hardly see. It is just spectacular. Look for an online fishing video showing this event.

A few miles north of Evergreen on Upper Bear Creek there is some fantastic fishing for small Brook trout. The Bear Creek at this point is only about four feet across and maybe knee deep at the deepest points. The water is crystal clear and full of aquatic life.

Here are few fishing tackle tips to make this an exciting trip. First use a light weight rod with super lite floating fly line and a light weight six foot leader. These little brookies love to go after dry flies, so bring a good assortment.

Second, bring a lunch and leave your cell phone in the car. There’s no cell service so you won’t be able to play online fishing games.

How to Save the Worlds Oceans

26/08/2011 09:12

It’s a touchy subject, but how can people make a difference that can help save our oceans from the pressures they are under from overfishing, pollution and other demises?

In Australia there are fishing regulations that cover the coast of the continent. These ask anglers to abide by quotas of how many bait fish they can take to the lengths of fish they can take home and also to release threatened species such as blue fin tuna and marlin.

If you think about the amount of people who fish by the coasts of our planets oceans and hypothetically assume that each person catches at least 20 Lbs of fish each, then you start to realize that there are millions of tons that are never accounted for on the global statistics. Of course trying to police people in poverty stricken countries about sustainable fishing and pollution is futile without proper education and funding. However, most of you reading at least have a computer and a brain and can make a massive difference to saving the worlds oceans.

The way in which our children are educated about handling fish usually comes from family members. If we can teach our children that cold-blooded fish are better handled with a wet cloth or hand or even shaken from the hook whilst in the water, then a lot of the smaller fish are going to live to fight another day.

Taking a fishing video home instead of fishes and picking up litter, old lines and fishing hooks can also make a big difference and avoid possible deaths of other wildlife that our oceans depend on.

Signing online petitions and adding your support in any way to the current effort towards global fishing sustainability will also help you contribute positively.
