Where to Catch a World Record Fish

07/11/2011 09:52

One of the dreams of most fishing enthusiasts is to catch a world record fish. But these days there are so few of really big fish left. Most fish get caught or killed before they have a chance to grow to record size. The question becomes, where do you go to catch a world record fish?

The answer is difficult. It if were easy everyone would be catching record sized fish. It also depends on what species you would like to catch. The more popular the fish species, the harder it will be to catch a record.

For the most part if you want to catch a big fish, you need to go to a large body of water. Fish that live in large bodies of water tend to be bigger than those that live in smaller bodies of water.

Big fish are also found where there is an abundance of food that be had with very little energy expended. The lack of predators also contributes to fish growing to a record size. The lack of predators includes man. An area that is not a popular fishing destination is a good place to try for a record.

In the US and Canada, it is very difficult to find a body of water that meets these conditions. Most of the world records set in the US and Canada occurred years ago when the populations were smaller and fewer fishing fanciers existed. That being said there are still some large remote lakes in Canada that aren’t very popular. A good set of fishing maps will help you find these lakes as well as the areas in the lakes where trophies may be found.

But if you can’t find any records in real life, there are a few fishing games among the online fishing games that will give you a virtual thrill of catching a world record fish.

International Fishing Spot: Amazon

02/11/2011 10:43

The Amazon River is the second longest river in the world; only the NileRiveris longer.
The amazing thing is the Amazon is navigable with large ocean going vessels for 1000
miles and smaller ocean going vessels for an additional 1300 miles. Large river steamers
are able to navigate more than 100 of the larger tributaries. All this makes for amazing
fishing adventures.

The mouth of the Amazon is gigantic. The mouth of the main stream is 50 miles but
over the course of time massive deposits of soil have created an estuary, complete with
islands, that spans over 150 miles wide. The estuary dumps n average of 3 million tons of
sediment daily. It also dumps between 9 and 32 million gallons of water per second into
the Atlantic. This amount is so great it affects the salinity of the Atlantic for 200 miles
out from the mouth.
The Amazon is home to over 1000 species of fish. Some of the fish are extremely unique.
The electric eel of the Amazon emits a constant flow of electricity. It is also capable of
discharging high voltage shocks that will stun large animals.

There is also the man eating Red Bellied Piranha, check out the fishing video showing
these fish in action.

The largest fresh water fish in the world is at home in the Amazon. The Pirarucu can
grow to 15 feet long and weigh over 400 pounds. This huge fish has giant scales, long
dorsal fins and anal fins. It is a powerful swimmer that can chase down and eat other fish.
Fishing for this fish is incredible.

It is best to check the local fishing regulations before fishing. Some areas protect the
Pirarucu. There are also several online fishing games that highlight fishing on the
Amazon.

Where to Locate Crappie in the Fall

01/11/2011 09:22

Crappie is great fun to fish for in the fall. They are full of spunk and fight. Both the white and black crappie loves the cooler water and is very active this time of year.

Crappie have bee introduced into many lakes and ponds where they were not naturally found. The black crappie thrives in cooler, deeper, cleaner water. They also like areas that have a lot of aquatic vegetation.

One of their favorite spots to hang out is around boat docks. Boat docks are usually in deep water and aquatic plants grow well in these areas. Boat docks also provide shade so the water is cooler than the surrounding areas.

Black crappies also like deep ponds, those with banks that drop off sharply are their favorites. Find a big tree hanging over the pond creating shade and this is where the crappie will be. In additional to the shade provided by the trees, crappie also like the insets that are around and in the trees.

Crappies are fun to catch on fly rods. Because they feed early in the morning and again in the evening you can throw insect patterns at them from the bank, a belly boat, or a kayak. Check out some of the kayak fishing videos to see how much fun this can be.

If you do your own fly tying, look under the trees and docks to see what bugs are floating in the water. These are the patterns you should imitate.

Both black and white crappie travel in schools. This means if you can get one, keep on fishing, the chances are good you’ll catch several more.

As midmorning comes along the crappie will settle in and stop feeding. While you are waiting for the evening fishing to begin, it’s a great time to play some online fishing games. There are several fishing games where you can catch crappie.

Best International Fishing Spots

31/10/2011 15:41

The world is huge and water covers almost 3/4 of it. One of the largest fresh water fishing rivers is the Amazon River. The Amazon is the second largest river in the world with only the Nile being longer. But, unlike the Nile, the Amazon is navigable with ocean going vessels for 3000 miles. This makes it possible to have an amazing fishing adventure. If river fishing is your favorite, the Amazon River is a wild wonderful venue. The Amazon starts in the Andes Mountains and runs across the continent emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. All along this river the fishing and the local culture is amazing.

The fishing is excellent all up and down the Amazon. There are well over a 1000 different species found in the river. Some of the fish are crazy man eaters like the red bellied piranha.

Another great International fishing spot is the Caribbean Sea. This area has many different types of fishing and all of them are excellent.

The Caribbean Sea is surrounded by land on the south and west and circled by islands on the north and east. For the most part, Caribbean is more than 6000 feet deep. Large portions of the sea are 12,000 feet deep. The deepest area is the Cayman trench is over 25,000 feet deep.

These nice deep waters are home to Marlin, Sailfish, and Spearfish, Swordfish, Wahoo, and many others. This area maintains a fairly consistent temperature year round so the fishing conditions remain constant year round.

There are many fishing contests all throughout the world. If you’ve never competed in a contest you owe it to your self to try. If you’re just not sure, try watching a fishing video. Then book your trip.

Deep See Fishing Equipment

27/10/2011 14:37

It seems that every method of fishing has its own specialized equipment; but then isn’t that what makes it more fun? Deep sea fishing, like all fishing games requires its own equipment because of the nature of the fish and the environment where they live. Here are some of the important components.

The deep sea fishing rod is a heavy duty rod. They are usually short, only about 5.5 to 6.5 feet long. It takes a lot to bend one of these rods, but there are many fish in the sea capable of bending and even breaking these rods. A wild 1200 pound Blue marlin has the ability to damage almost anything.

The deep sea fishing reel must also have some unique characteristics. It must hold a few hundred yards of heavy weight line. In the ocean a fish may run for miles. The boat should be able to keep up with the fish, but sometimes fish move faster and change directions quicker than a boat. The reel must be able to apply many pounds of drag in order to tire out these strong fish. Using mechanical advantage is the only way to land a fish that is five times bigger than you are.

Deep sea fishing requires the use of a large fish hook size. Big fish, with big mouths, need big strong hooks. Live baits are also large to attract the fish’s attention.

The best fish lures are those that are good sized and brightly colored. They also must have a good action in the water to encourage the fish to chase it. A large assortment of size, shapes, and colors will help when the fish decide to be fickle.

There are some days when the fish are so fickle that nothing will make them strike. These are the days to enjoy the boat ride and play online fishing games.

Where to Catch a Swordfish

24/10/2011 09:54

One of the most fun ways to fish is Sword fishing. The reason is they are big and strong. Most Sword fish weigh over 300 pounds and get as big as 1000 pounds. When a 200 pound man takes on a 300 pound Sword it is going to be a good fight. The fish has a pretty good chance of winning. The man must be strapped into his seat so he doesn’t get pulled overboard. A hooked Sword fish leaps out of the water and dives deep to show power.

One of the marvelous places to go to find these amazing fish is Hawaii. Sword fish love the deep water that is around the Hawaiian Island. They also thrive in the warm climate.

There are many boats and guides that can be hired to take you out fishing for Sword fish. They know where to find the Sword but if you get some good fishing maps you'll have a better idea of the good location. Sword fish, like most fish, are creatures of habit. They tend to stay in certain areas that have the right temperature and plenty of food. They move only to follow their food source or adjust to change in temps.

Another great location to fish Sword fish is the island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands. The Cook Islands are located 2800 miles south of Hawaii and 1800 miles north east of New Zealand. Rarotonga is the largest populated island.

There are many good guides and boats to take you out to the waters east and north of the island. This is an absolutely beautiful area to fish and the fishing here is wonderful. If it should slow down you can still enjoy the scenery and play some online fishing games.

Also makes sure you review all of the local fishing regulations. You don’t want to get into trouble in a foreign country.

Tips for Fishing in the City

20/10/2011 10:09

Those fishing fanatics who want to fish every free moment of every day sometimes get frustrated.  Life and commitments won’t allow them to leave the city and go out to their favorite lake or river; however, there are plenty of lakes and ponds that are full of fish because people don’t consider fishing in them. Here are some tips for fishing in the city.

First check the local park fishing regulations to see if there are any special rules. Sometimes cities have their own fishing rules that apply in addition to the state regulations. If you can speak to a park ranger or a person in the parks department you can get an idea of what kind of fish have been stocked and how often the lake has been stocked. After you have discovered this information a trip to the local bait and tackle shop can teach you want kind of bait most people use. If you fly fish, they can also tell you what flies are effective. They may even have fishing maps so you can learn the terrain of the lake.

Armed with this information, get your gear and go fishing on your lunch or you can take a walk around the lake and survey the sights. If the fishing is worth it at all someone or several someone's will be fishing. Stop off and ask these folks about the fishing. They can give you more information. Ask them how often they fish, what they catch and what they use for bait. Then, just for fun, ask them for some spring bass fishing tips.

Now you’re ready to fish. But if the fish aren’t biting, there is always some excitement to be found playing online fishing games. Fishing games can give you the thrill you’re looking for when you can’t get to the water.

International Fishing Spots Caribbean

19/10/2011 10:11

One of the most fantastic international fishing areas is the Caribbean Sea.

All around the edges of the sea especially around the islands are coral reefs. These coral reefs are home to hundreds of different fish species of which several are good game fish. These areas provide some excellent rod and reel fishing as well as spear fishing.

Along the islands are also flats with mangroves and fish. These flats provide some amazing bone fishing areas. Bone fishing on a fly line is a fantastic experience. Sight fishing, while walking through the flats that are out in the sea far from land, is thrilling. Competing with black tipped sharks is even more of a thrill. If you have done your own fly tying it makes for a perfect experience.

There are many fishing contests all throughout the island. If you’ve never competed in a contest you owe it to your self to try. If you’re just not sure, try watching a Caribbean fishing video. That will convince you.

On a hot afternoon if the fishing gets slow, you can always play some online fishing games as you bob along on the beautiful blue waters of the Caribbean.

17/10/2011 15:10

Canada is an amazing country full of lakes and rivers. Over all it provides some of the best fishing in the world as well as some beautiful scenery. There are so many wonderful places to fish it is hard to determine the best location, but here are a few great suggestions.

Last Mountain Lake in Saskatchewan is a great lake to fish and boat. It is a long thin lake located just north of Regina. The outlet of Lost Mountains flows down and empties to the Qu’Appelle River. The Qu'Appelle flows across much of Saskatchewan and provides great fishing. One of its tributaries is the Moose Jaw River. At the head waters of Moose Jaw River are four small lakes. Each of these lakes, as well as connecting stretches of river, provides some amazing trout fishing.

Lake Winnipeg, in southern Manitoba, is a shallow lake. On the southern end of the lake are the small towns of Grand Beach, and Manicouagan. They are wonderful resorts to stay in while fishing. Lake Winnipeg is amazing fishing for Northern Pike, Sauger, and Walleye. Banff National Park in Alberta is home to many lakes and streams. This entire region is absolutely amazing. Shore Lake Trout Fishing Tips

12/10/2011 09:41

Lake fishing for Trout and river or stream fishing for Trout is very different styles of fishing. The different styles of fishing appeal to different types of people. Here are a few fishing tips to help catch Trout along the shore of a lake.

Trout have fairly small mouths and they generally feed on fairly small things. As a result, it is best to use a fairly small fish hook size. Usually a number 10 hook or smaller will work best, no matter what kind of bait you are using.

Trout that live in lakes will bite on variety of baits. Salmon eggs and worms are two of the old reliables. Velveeta cheese also works well for fishing, as well as lunch.

Lake dwelling Trout tend to move around the edge of the lake. They may be 10 feet out or 50 feet out. That is one really nice thing about fishing on a lake. A child who can cast 10 feet has just as good a chance of catching a fish as a man casting 100 feet.

Sometimes the Trout are on the bottom of the lake and sometimes close to the top of the water. For the most part, Trout feed close to the top in the morning and evening. The rest of the day they seem to be at the bottom.

In the morning and evening, using a bubble about four feet above the hook works well. In the late morning and afternoon a drop shot rig, sinker on the bottom and hook about two feet up, seems to work well. Some states have fishing regulations that allow two or three hooks on one line. Three hooks work well for Trout.

While setting along the shore waiting for a bite you can play some online fishing games.

There are several free online fishing games for trout that are fun.
